Monogram Rangetop Keeps Clicking After a Boil-Over: What Happened

After a pot boils over, a rangetop may click without stopping or fail to light. This post explains why spills affect ignition and how to clean up without making it worse.

A boil-over can disable a rangetop burner for a simple reason: liquid reaches the igniter or burner base, and the spark goes where it should not. The clicking you hear is the igniter trying to light a burner that is wet or blocked. It usually fades once things dry out, but a few rules help.

Immediate Steps

  1. Turn every knob to off and let the surface cool.
  2. Remove the grates and burner caps.
  3. Soak up standing liquid with a towel. Do not pour water into the burner base.
  4. Let the parts dry fully, many hours if the spill was large.
  5. Refit the caps flat, then test.

What Makes It Worse

  • Spraying cleaner into the ports or around the igniter.
  • Using the burner again before it is dry.
  • Leaving sugary or starchy spills that bake on and harden.

Why Houston Matters

In humid weather, surfaces dry slowly, and a burner that clicked all evening may be fine by morning. That does not always happen. If clicking continues after a day of drying, or a burner lights with a weak, uneven flame, the igniter or the ports need attention.

What We Cannot Conclude From Clicking Alone

A burner that clicks but does not light could have a wet igniter, a crusted port or a failed spark module. A flame that lights but looks yellow or lifts from the burner suggests blockage or an air-gas mixture issue. We check the burner, the igniter and the spark path in turn before suggesting any parts. If you smell gas, shut the knobs off and leave the area.

Book a visit if the clicking will not stop. We arrive in three-hour windows, quote the price in writing and give a 30-day workmanship warranty on repairs. See rangetop repair and our service area.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
