A panel-ready Monogram refrigerator wears a custom cabinet panel, and that panel changes the load on the hinges and the way the door lines up with its neighbors. When a gap opens at the top or the door drifts open on its own, the first question is whether the panel, the hinge or the leveling is responsible. Each one has a different fix.
Signs to Look For
- A visible gap at the top corner or along the latch side.
- The door does not swing closed from a partly open position.
- Frost forms along one edge of the gasket.
- The panel edge rubs a nearby cabinet or toe kick.
Simple Checks
Shut the door on a paper strip at a few points around the edge. A strip that pulls free with no drag means the gasket is not touching in that spot. Watch the gasket for flat or folded sections. Then look at the floor: a built-in that has shifted after a remodel or because of a soft subfloor can lean enough to open a gap.
What Cannot Be Concluded From the Gap
A gap does not tell you whether the panel is too heavy for its fittings, whether the unit has settled, or whether the hinge needs adjustment. Panel weight is set by the cabinet maker, and the specification for your model should be followed. We do not make assumptions about that weight, and we do not alter panels or cabinetry.
What Happens Next
We check leveling, hinge condition and the gasket, and we report what we see. If the panel is the likely cause, the cabinet maker or installer needs to be involved, and we can explain what to ask them. Left alone, a leaking seal makes the compressor work longer and can cause frost inside.
Tell us the model number and whether a panel was changed recently when you book. A technician comes in a three-hour block, and you see the written price first; the work is under warranty for 30 days. Read about refrigerator repair or look up your neighborhood.
