Remodeling Around Monogram Built-Ins: A Checklist Before the Demo

A kitchen remodel is hard on built-in appliances. This checklist covers what to record, protect and test before and after the work so problems show up while the contractor is still on site.

Remodels in Houston often keep the appliances and rebuild the cabinets, counters and floors around them. A Monogram cooktop or oven that worked well before demolition can come out of a remodel with a loose connection, a dented trim piece or dust inside. A short routine helps you catch problems early.

Before the Work

  1. Photograph each appliance, including the model and serial plate (model numbers start with Z).
  2. Run every appliance once and note anything unusual, such as one weak zone or a noisy fan.
  3. Ask the contractor who disconnects gas, water and power, and who reconnects them.
  4. Cover cooktop glass and oven faces with protective film, not tape that leaves residue.
  5. Ask where the appliance manuals will be kept during construction so they do not end up in a dumpster.

During the Work

Dust is a quiet problem. Seal cooling vents and hood openings while sanding or cutting happens. Keep heavy items off cooktop glass, and do not let anyone lean on a door. Cutout dimensions and clearances come from your installation guide, so ask the installer to follow it rather than adjust the cabinet to fit.

After the Work

  • Run each appliance and compare it to your notes.
  • Smell for gas around the connection; call the utility immediately if you do.
  • Check that doors close flush and drawers open.
  • Look for water around the dishwasher and under the sink.

What Cannot Be Told by Eye

An appliance that looks fine can still have a pinched wire or a slightly stressed connection. If something behaves differently after the work, we check it before you sign off with the contractor.

We schedule in three-hour windows, give a written price before work and stand behind repairs for 30 days. See cooktop repair or the service area page.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
