What E6 means
E6 on a Monogram ZHU30 or ZHU36 induction cooktop points to an internal electronic problem on the generator board, the board that drives the induction coils. Only a technician reads E6, in the cooktop's service mode. The owner usually sees just an E on the display, or an E alternating with a letter, and one or more cooking zones that will not heat. The generator board is the part named for replacement once the diagnosis is confirmed.
Common causes of E6
- Generator board output stage
- Connectors and wiring to the generator board
- Cooling airflow around the board
1. Turn every element off and let the glass cool. 2. Make sure nothing is stored in or blocks the ventilation space under the cooktop. 3. Shut the cooktop off at the breaker for a full minute, then switch it back on. 4. Try one zone with a flat, dry pan. 5. Leave it off if the E comes back.
- E6 is not shown to owners in full, so we read it in the service mode
- Poor airflow under the cooktop can stress the board, so we check it first
- We quote the generator board in writing before we order it
Other Cooktop codes
What is the generator board?
It creates the high-frequency current that heats the pan through the glass. If it stops working, the zones cannot heat. We test it before replacing it so you only pay for what is needed.
Can I reset E6 myself?
Switching power off at the breaker for a minute is safe and sometimes clears a one-time glitch. If the E returns, the board needs a technician's test.
Does it affect all the zones?
It can affect one or all, depending on how the board is arranged on your ZHU30 or ZHU36. We check each zone during the visit.
Still seeing E6?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
