What Upper Thermal Sensor OPEN means
On Monogram Advantium 240 ZSC2200-series speedcook ovens (ZSC2200, ZSC2201 and ZSC2202), Upper Thermal Sensor OPEN is what our technician reads in the service test when the circuit of the upper thermal sensor is broken. The service test is entered with the SPEED COOK pad and the knob held for 3 seconds. The owner sees only the scrolling message SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED, and the oven may stop cooking. The reading is confirmed for the 240-volt Advantium only.
Common causes of Upper Thermal Sensor OPEN
- Upper thermal sensor wire or connector
- Sensor itself reading open
- Harness between the sensor and control
- Control board input
1. Stop the cooking and let the oven cool with the door closed. 2. Check that nothing blocks the vents around the oven. 3. Wipe the cavity clean after it cools. 4. Run a short cook to see whether the message comes back. 5. Call us if SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED scrolls again.
- The owner message does not name the upper sensor, so only the service test shows it
- We check the sensor circuit and connectors before replacing anything
- We confirm the oven heats correctly once the circuit reads normal

How do you know it is the upper sensor?
Our technician puts the oven into its service test, and the control lists which sensor it found open. On the display you only get the scrolling message.
Will the oven still cook?
It may refuse to continue, since the control cannot read the cavity temperature without that sensor. Do not run it repeatedly to find out. We will check the sensor circuit before the oven runs again.
Is an open reading the same as a shorted one?
They are different conditions of the same sensor circuit. Open means a broken path, shorted means the path has collapsed. We test both the same way with the oven cool.
