What SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED means
On Monogram Advantium 240 ZSC2200-series speedcook ovens, which include the ZSC2200, ZSC2201 and ZSC2202, SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED scrolls across the display when the control finds a sensor problem or too much heat. The control watches the upper and lower thermal sensors for an open or shorted reading, the humidity sensor for an open reading, and the cavity for abnormally high temperature. It can take 3 to 20 minutes after cooking starts for the message to appear. The owner sees only this one message.
Common causes of SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED
- Upper or lower thermal sensor open or shorted
- Humidity sensor open
- Cavity temperature running abnormally high
- Sensor wiring and connectors
- Control board reading the sensors
1. Stop the cooking and let the oven cool with the door closed. 2. Check that the vents are not blocked and nothing is stored on top of the oven. 3. Wipe food residue out of the cavity once it is cool. 4. Start a short cook and see whether the message returns. 5. If it scrolls again, stop using the oven and call us.
- The scrolling message is the same for every sensor, so the owner cannot tell which one
- In the service test we read which sensor or temperature condition the control found
- We test the sensor and its wiring before we name any part

Which sensor is the message about?
You cannot tell from the display. It scrolls the same text for any of the thermal sensors, the humidity sensor or high temperature. We read the exact reading in the service test.
Why did it show up in the middle of cooking?
The control checks while the oven runs, and a problem can take anywhere from 3 to 20 minutes to be noticed. That is normal for these ovens.
Is it safe to keep cooking?
We recommend stopping. If the cause is a sensor, the control cannot judge heat properly, and a real overheat reading is a reason to let the oven cool and call us.
Still seeing SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
