What Upper Thermal Sensor SHORTED means
For Monogram Advantium 240 ZSC2200-series speedcook ovens, covering the ZSC2200, ZSC2201 and ZSC2202, Upper Thermal Sensor SHORTED is a reading the technician sees in the service test. It means the control finds the upper thermal sensor circuit shorted. The owner is not shown that wording. Instead SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED scrolls on the display. A shorted reading makes the cavity temperature impossible to read, so the oven may stop cooking. The meaning is confirmed for the 240-volt Advantium.
Common causes of Upper Thermal Sensor SHORTED
- Pinched or damaged sensor wiring
- Upper thermal sensor shorting inside
- Moisture or residue at the connector
- Control board sensor input
1. Turn the oven off and let it cool completely. 2. Wipe spills from the cavity and the door seal area once it is cool. 3. Check that vents are clear. 4. Try a short cook and watch for the message. 5. If SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED scrolls again, call us.
- The scrolling message hides which sensor is involved
- We read the sensor reading in the service test and measure the circuit
- We check the wiring route for damage before a sensor is replaced

Why does the display not say shorted?
The owner screen shows one message for all of these readings. The shorted wording appears only to the technician in the service test. That is why we ask you to describe the message exactly as it scrolls.
Could a spill cause it?
Residue can reach a connector and change its reading, though a damaged wire is more common. We inspect both while the oven is cool. The oven should be cool before we touch anything.
Should I try the oven again?
One short test run is fine after cooling. If the message scrolls again, stop. Repeated runs only add heat to an oven that cannot read its own temperature.
