What Er39 means

Er39 on a Monogram ZHU30 or ZHU36 induction cooktop is an internal electronic problem on the touch board, the board behind the glass keys. Owners cannot read this code, because it is shown in the technician's service mode. What you see is usually just an E, or an E alternating with a letter, along with keys that act strangely or do not respond. The touch board is the part named for replacement once the diagnosis is confirmed.

Common causes of Er39

  • Touch board electronics
  • Connector and cable to the touch board
  • Moisture under the keypanel glass
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn every element off and let the glass cool. 2. Dry the keypanel with a soft cloth and keep liquids away from it. 3. Put the cooktop's breaker off for about a minute, then back on. 4. Try the keys once. 5. Stop if the E returns.

! Why to stop there
  • The code names the touch board, but we still rule out wiring and moisture
  • We read the stored code in the service mode to be sure which touch board code it is
  • A written price comes before any board is ordered
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Er39Er39 questions
What does the touch board do?

It senses your fingers on the glass keys and passes the request on. When its electronics misbehave, keys can stop working or act on their own.

Er39, Er20 and Er22 all mention the touch board. Are they the same?

They point to the same board but are separate codes, so the technician reads exactly which one is stored. That helps us see whether the problem keeps returning.

Should I keep pressing keys?

No. Repeated pressing will not help. Turn the cooktop off at the breaker for a minute and dry the glass. If the E returns, stop and call us so we can test the board.
