What E9 means
E9 on Monogram ZHU30 and ZHU36 induction cooktops means the temperature rose too fast or the sensor circuit reads open. A technician reads it in the cooktop's service mode. Owners see just an E, or an E alternating with a letter, and the affected zone may shut off to protect the glass. The technician checks the sensor connection at the generator board first, then the element, then the board itself.
Common causes of E9
- Sensor connection at the generator board
- Heating element and its sensor
- Generator board input
1. Turn every element off and let the glass cool fully. 2. Use a flat, dry pan with food or liquid in it, centered on the zone. 3. Put the cooktop's breaker off for about a minute, then back on. 4. Make sure nothing blocks the ventilation space under the cooktop. 5. Stop if the E returns.
- The sensor sits under the glass, so we test it with the cooktop opened
- A dry pan or an overheated pan can look like a sensor problem
- We check in a fixed order and quote in writing before replacing anything

Can an empty pan trigger E9?
Heating an empty or very thin pan can make the temperature rise too fast. Let the glass cool, use a flat pan with food or liquid and try again. If E returns with a good pan, call us.
Is the sensor a separate part?
It is built into the element area. We test the sensor circuit first and only quote the element or board when the reading points there.
Why did one zone shut off?
The control stops heating when it cannot trust the temperature. That protects the glass and the electronics, so the shutdown is intended behavior. A good sensor reading usually brings the zone back.
Still seeing E9?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
