What E alternating with c means
On Monogram ZHU30 and ZHU36 induction cooktops, such as the ZHU30RSRSS, ZHU36RSRSS, ZHU30RBMBB and ZHU36RBMBB, the display alternating between E and c means the keypad senses continuous activation of one or more keys. The control reads a key as held down, so it ignores the touches and may not let you start any element. The owner sees the alternating E and c on the display. This wording comes from the older owner's manual.
Common causes of E alternating with c
- Spill, water or residue on the control keys
- Cookware or an object resting on the keys
- Touch sensor reading a key as pressed
- Control board input
1. Turn all elements off and remove anything from the control area. 2. Wipe the glass around the keys dry with a soft cloth. 3. Wait a minute and try the keys again. 4. Do not use sharp tools on the glass. 5. Call us if E and c keep alternating.
- Moisture and residue are easy to remove, but a sensor that stays active is not
- We check the touch panel and its wiring
- We test an element after the keypad reads normally

What does E and c mean together?
The alternating display tells you the keypad is sensing a key that is being pressed all the time. It is not a heating problem. The cookware itself is fine in this case.
Can a wet cloth cause it?
A damp cloth left on the control area can trigger the keys. Remove it, dry the glass and see whether the display clears. A wet cloth is the most common reason we see.
Will it clear itself?
Often, once the object or moisture is gone. If it stays after the glass is clean and dry, the touch controls themselves need a look.
