What E alternating with o means

On Monogram ZHU30 and ZHU36 induction cooktops, including the ZHU30RSRSS, ZHU36RSRSS, ZHU30RBMBB and ZHU36RBMBB, the display alternating between E and o means a cooktop sensor reports that the induction element or the electronics have overheated. The owner sees the alternating E and o, and the cooktop will not heat until the unit has cooled. The description is taken from the older owner's manual.

Common causes of E alternating with o

  • Cooling airflow blocked under the cooktop
  • Cooling fan not moving air
  • Pan left empty on an element
  • Temperature sensor reading
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all elements off and remove the cookware. 2. Let the cooktop cool for a while with nothing on it. 3. Make sure the area under the cooktop is not packed with stored items. 4. Try a single element at low heat. 5. Call us if E and o comes back soon.

! Why to stop there
  • Overheating can come from airflow or from the sensor reading
  • We check the fan and the airflow path under the cooktop
  • We test the sensor before we call a part bad
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E alternating with oE alternating with o questions
Is the cooktop broken?

Not necessarily. It stopped to protect itself. After cooling it may work again, but a repeat tells us the airflow or sensor needs a look.

What makes the electronics hot?

Blocked airflow, a fan that does not move air or long high-heat cooking can all do it. We check each when we come. We check them in that order because airflow is the simplest to confirm.

Can I cook while it cools?

Please let it cool first. Pushing an overheated cooktop to run only makes the heat problem worse. Give it time, then try a single element at low heat before anything else.
