What F2 means

Monogram ZGP professional gas ranges, among them the ZGP486ND and ZGP364ND, report F2 when the oven temperature goes above 650 degrees Fahrenheit with the door unlatched, or above 915 degrees with the door latched. The oven control uses a Timer display with a Mini-Knob, and F2 is one of only two codes, with F9, that actually appear on that display. The documented causes are restricted airflow to the rear of the range and high resistance in the oven sensor leads or connectors.

Common causes of F2

  • Airflow blocked at the rear of the range
  • High resistance in the oven sensor leads or connectors
  • Oven sensor reading incorrectly
  • Control responding to a false overheat reading
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the oven controls off and keep the door closed while it cools. 2. Make sure nothing blocks the vents at the back or top of the range. 3. Once cool, try a short bake at a low setting. 4. If F2 returns, stop using the oven and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • An overtemperature reading may be real or may come from a bad sensor reading, and we cannot tell which without measuring
  • We inspect the sensor leads, connectors and rear venting before suggesting a part
  • Because heat is involved, we do not clear the code and carry on until the cause is known
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F2F2 questions
Is F2 dangerous?

Treat it seriously. Let the range cool completely, keep the vents clear, and have us find out why the temperature climbed, or why the control believed it had climbed, before you bake again.

Could cookware or foil cause it?

Blocking vents or lining the oven with foil can trap heat. Keep the rear vents clear and follow your manual for what may go on the racks, then see whether F2 returns.

Does F2 mean the sensor is bad?

Not necessarily. Resistance in the sensor leads or connectors can mimic a hot oven to the control. We check the wiring and the sensor reading together before we say which part is responsible.
