What F4 means
F4 on a Monogram ZGP professional gas range, such as the ZGP486ND or ZGP366N, means the oven control sees a shorted oven temperature sensor. The control reads the sensor's resistance, and a value under 950 ohms is treated as a short. A healthy sensor reads roughly 1080 ohms at room temperature and shifts by about 2 ohms for each degree of temperature change. The control stores F4, and the oven may not heat or may stop in the middle of a cycle.
Common causes of F4
- Oven sensor shorted internally
- Sensor lead pinched or touching metal
- Connector contact problem at the control
- Control misreading the sensor input
1. Let the range cool completely with the controls off. 2. Start a short bake at a moderate setting to see if F4 returns. 3. If F4 shows again, stop using that oven and call us with the code. 4. Keep the door closed while the range is cooling down.
- A short can sit in the sensor, its lead or the connector, and we cannot see which from the code alone
- We measure the sensor at room temperature and compare it with the expected range
- The control is considered only after the sensor and wiring are cleared

What does F4 mean on a ZGP?
The oven temperature sensor looks shorted to the control. That means it reads far lower in resistance, under 950 ohms, than a healthy sensor does at room temperature.
Why does room temperature matter?
The sensor's resistance changes with heat, so a fair measurement is taken when the oven is cold. We then compare what we read with the value a good sensor should show.
Is a replacement sensor always the answer?
No. A pinched lead, a lead touching metal or a poor connector can cause the very same reading, so we inspect all of those before we order anything for your range.
Still seeing F4?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
