What C3 means

C3 appears on Monogram ZGP professional gas ranges such as the ZGP366N when the oven control loses communication with the upper mode encoder. That encoder tells the control which cooking mode, for example bake, broil or convection, the upper mode knob is set to. If the link fails, the control cannot tell what you selected. The control records C3 among its recent codes, and technicians read the list from a test menu rather than owners.

What does the mode encoder do?

It reports which cooking mode the knob has selected. C3 means that report is not reaching the control, so the oven may not start the mode you want.

Is C3 related to C2?

They are neighbors. C2 is the upper temperature encoder and C3 is the upper mode encoder. They can appear together if the harness serving both is loose.

Should I keep turning the knob?

Gentle turning to test is fine. Forcing it can damage the encoder, so stop if it feels stiff or gritty and call us to take a look.
