What C5 means
For ranges with a second oven, such as Monogram ZGP professional gas models in the ZGP484NG family, C5 means the control cannot communicate with the lower temperature encoder. That encoder reports the position of the lower oven's temperature knob. Without its report, the control does not know what temperature you chose for the lower cavity. The control stores C5 with other recent codes, which technicians read from a test menu during a visit.
Common causes of C5
- Harness to the lower temperature encoder
- Encoder connector not seated
- Encoder not answering the control
- Control communication input
1. Turn the lower oven knobs to off. 2. Move the lower temperature knob gently and return it to off. 3. Try one bake in the lower oven. 4. Leave the upper oven alone while you test. 5. If C5 comes back, stop using the lower oven and call us with the code.
- The lower knob can feel normal while its encoder is silent
- We check the wiring to the lower encoder before replacing it
- We test the lower mode encoder at the same visit, since it is close by
Other Professional Range codes
Does C5 affect the upper oven?
Usually not. C2 and C3 cover the upper oven on these ranges. C5 is limited to the lower temperature knob, unless a shared harness is loose.
My range has only one oven. Can I still see C5?
The code is tied to a lower oven encoder. If your model has no lower oven, give us the model number and exactly what the display shows at that moment, and we will look into it with you before we book a visit.
Can I bake in the upper oven meanwhile?
If the upper oven works normally, you can usually use it. Keep an eye on its behavior, and call us if any other code appears.
Still seeing C5?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
