What C6 means

C6 on a Monogram ZGP professional gas range tells you the oven control has lost communication with the lower mode encoder. This encoder reports which cooking mode the lower oven's mode knob is set to. When that report stops, the control cannot tell what the lower oven should do. The control keeps C6 among its recent codes, and technicians read them from a test menu that opens only briefly after power-up.

Common causes of C6

  • Harness to the lower mode encoder
  • Connector not fully seated
  • Mode encoder not reporting
  • Control communication input
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Set the lower oven knobs to off and let the range rest. 2. Select Bake with the lower mode knob. 3. See whether the oven reacts to the selection. 4. If C6 returns, stop using the lower oven and call us with the code.

! Why to stop there
  • We cannot tell a loose connector from a failed encoder until we test the circuit
  • Wiring is checked before any encoder is quoted
  • We also test the lower temperature encoder because it shares the harness
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
C6C6 questions
What is the difference between C5 and C6?

C5 is the lower temperature encoder and C6 is the lower mode encoder. One reports how hot you want the oven, and the other reports which cooking mode you chose.

Why would a mode encoder lose contact?

A loose plug, a worn contact behind the knob or a damaged wire can all do it. We check them in order, starting with the wiring, and we tell you what we find before any part is ordered.

Do I need to open the range?

No. Please leave the panels alone. We open the range with power disconnected, and we quote any part in writing before we replace it so you know the price first.

Still seeing C6?

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
